Werner Bonefeld is Professor in the Department of Politics at the University of York. He is currently researching and writing in the areas of critical theory and liberal thought. His work is associated with Open Marxism, which developed as a critique of the dogmatic Marxist tradition. He is a founding member of the Trans-Pennine Working Group, which organises monthly seminars in the area of critical theory and Marxism. His monograph Critical Theory and the Critique of Political Economy came out with Bloomsbury in 2014. He is one of the editors of the SAGE Handbook of Frankfurt School Critical Theory (2018).
